چکیده

During the last years, we have performed systematic calculations on the vibrational properties of simple molecules and ions containing interhalogen bonds. Surprisingly, during our literature searches we found that detailed information on the mean amplitudes of vibration of the halogen molecules themselves ar not available. In the classic work of Cyvin [1] only a brief mention of these values for Cl2, I2, and 79Br81Br, at two selected temperatures, are given. There is no information about F2 [1, 2]. In order to fill this gap and to complement and extend our studies, we have now performed a calculation of the mean amplitudes of vibration of the four halogen molecules. The calculations are relatively simple due to the fact that diatomic species present only onevibrational degree of freedom. The vibrational frequencies were taken from the book of Siebert [3]. They correspond to the gaseous F2, Cl2, and Br2 molecules and to a chloroformic solution of I2. These data, together with the corresponding force constants, calculated using the “two-masses model” [4], are presented in Table 1. According toKimura andKimura [5];mean-square amplitudes of vibration for a normal coordinate with one characteristic vibrational frequency can be calculated with the expression

Mean Amplitudes of Vibration of B

A great number of oxohalogen fluorides of the type F„XOm (with X = Cl, Br, I) are known, including neutral molecules as well as anionic and cationic species [1 ,2]. Chlorine [1,3] and bromine [1,4] compounds are espe cially abundant and have been thoroughly investigated during the last decades. As part of a long-term research project devoted to the characterization of bond properties of specie...

A theoretical study on halogen-π interactions: X-C2-Y…C8H8 complexes

M06-2X functional was employed to study halogen-π interactions in X-C2-Y…C8H8 complexes (X, Y=H, F, Cl, and Br). In fact, interactions of mono- or di-halogenated acetylenes and planar cyclooctatetraene as an anti-aromatic π system were considered. Relationship between binding energies of the complexes and charge transfer effects was investigated. Also, electronic charge density values were calc...

Force Field and Mean Amplitudes of Vibration of (NH

Normal coordinate analysis of urea, thiourea and selenourea was performed on the basis of the general valence force field; Wilson's FG matrix method has been used. The final force fields were obtained through an iterative selfconsistent method. The vibrational assignment for these molecules is discussed. Calculated mean amplitudes of vibration for the urea series and their deuterated derivative...

Mean Amplitudes of Vibration of F3ClO

As a continuation of our studies devoted to the vibrational and bond properties of molecules and ions containing interhalogen or halogen-oxygen bonds we have now performed an analysis of the bond characteristics of chlorine trifluoride oxide (chlorosyl trifluoride, F3ClO), through a calculation of its mean amplitudes of vibration from spectroscopic data. The interesting F3ClO molecule has been ...

Enhanced Vibrations at Surfaces with Back-Bonds Nearly Parallel to the Surface

It has been discovered that several very different surfaces exhibit a common property: unusually large vibration amplitudes of the outermost atoms, well beyond the enhancement normally expected at typical clean surfaces. These special surfaces are: ice H2O(0001), α-Al2O3(0001), α-Ga(010) and Si(111)-(2x1). The root-mean-square vibration amplitudes in these surfaces are at least double the bulk ...
